“Are you alright?”
I’m right as in a ship that’s standing up in the water
Is all right? Well no, everything isn’t
But
Steady as she goes
What do you want to know?
Am I in good health?
In good spirits?
Financially solvent?
Am I happy with how things are?
Hell no!
Things are mostly wrong
But when were they mostly right?
I live with regret, anxiety and sadness
I share the burdens of those whose burdens are unbearable
But mine are tolerable
Better than tolerable
We are not alright
We are altogether wronged
Except for those who are alright
