Ignore him and he’ll go away

Mark Twain even went so far as to admonish the idiot to keep his mouth shut as its better to look a fool than open one’s mouth and prove it. The cult of celebrity is partly fuelled by the disgust and derision of purists and gatekeepers of decorum. Boris Johnson established his rise to power through being a clown. Far from his reputation denying him office, it protected him from the slings and arrows and endeared him to those who’d had enough of stuffed shirts running the country.
Those wise words of our mothers are simple truths; essential truths that endure because they cannot be filtered. One undeniable truth is that as we grow up we learn the wisdom of the world — we become worldly wise. Such wisdom enables us to navigate the world of power, injustice and politics yet, as often as not, the rules of a particular game are at odds with our search for purpose, peace and love. You might conquer the world but forfeit your soul.
