X marks the spot

If anything symbolises my current feeling of hopelessness its the demise of the little blue bird that got caught in the cross hairs that have now replaced it as the Twitter logo. Its not that I really care about Twitter but I do visit regularly. That an egotistic blowhard could unilaterally replace a symbol that actually meant something, with an ‘X’ on a platform I use but he owns, is simply depressing. That I shouldn’t care just compounds my sense of WTF.

Musk’s latest brilliant idea is to stop allowing users to block others from their feed. One would hope some vaguely sensible person would have Musk’s ear but that’s doubtful. There was once a maxim that common sense would prevail. Alas that mule died while the ass prevails. You might guess where I’m going with this.

Lahaina, a disaster in the making

Within the last week the town of Lahaina on the island of Maui was destroyed by fire. Climate change is obviously in the frame but we could be looking at a more insidious and convoluted story behind the disaster. Hawaii is the second most expensive US state in which to live.
