I’m from the UK but remember watching young people in NY and SF crying when Bush won his 2nd turn. Those of us outside the USA couldn’t believe it but we had hope for the world when Obama took office in 2008. Many of my friends are nostalgic for Obama. I showed one of them the Michael Moore video where blacks from Flint were deeply wounded by Obama’s water stunt. Even that didn’t change her mind.

Obama did some bad stuff (as all presidents have) but what is galling is what he didn’t do. Being the first black President would have been a heavy burden but that’s no excuse. He sounded like MLK, he led people to believe he had empathy and a passion for justice. He gave hope and gradually crushed it, his final act of treachery being the support of the war hawk Clinton and stabbing Bernie in the back – and for what?

Those black voices in Flint are heart breaking. What he did there was unforgivable. I get Netflix recommending Michelle Obama. I’m not young but I completely understand why a young person might see a vote for anyone as pointless.
