Gary Lineker vs the BBC

I was going to write a piece entitle “I Don’t Stand with Gary Lineker — its too crowded” but I figured I’d just be trying to shout above the crowd and its not worth losing my voice over.

Winning isn’t everything

It sometimes concerns me when everyone is singing to the same tune that maybe we’ve gone off piste. If everyone knows the answer maybe the question is too simple. Ask just about anyone if peace is important to them and they’ll say yes. Then suggest that if the US stopped arming Ukraine the war would come to an abrupt end and peace takes second place to making Russia accountable. When Jesus talked about turning the other cheek his point was that in a dispute, the question of who is in the wrong is not the priority.

However the most important point about turning the other cheek is that it hurts. It hurts you and you are not even the guilty one. We can get into Gary’s tweet later but for now most of us can agree that he is in the right. Its blindingly obvious. So getting behind him costs us nothing and doesn’t hurt at all. It even gives some of us a dopamine shot. I’m glad we are agreeing that he is addressing hate speech and that an overreaching government and brown nosing BBC need to be challenged.
