Little Blue Hiding Hood
A Tale for Today
Once there was a young girl whose father was a ranger and trained marksman. She lived in a little village beside a large wood. Her grandpa lived deep in the wood and every week she would go to see him with cakes and treats she had baked with her mother.
The young girl would wear a blue hoody so as to be as inconspicuous as possible as she walked through the deep dark wood alone. Every time her grandpa would greet her with, “Hello little blue hiding hood” and they would both laugh.
One day, as she was making her way through the wood to her grandpa’s house with freshly baked treats she heard a growling voice and suddenly a wolf with orange fur lunged into her path and demanded to know where she was going.
“I smell an outsider”, growled the wolf. “You are not from the wood. What is your business here?”. He revealed his pointed teeth, as the young girl recoiled and struggled for breath.
“I am visiting my grandpa”, squeaked the girl.
“Is he expecting you?” answered the wolf, towering over her.
“I can’t be sure”, answered the girl in a nearer normal voice. “His memory isn’t so good so he might have forgotten.”
Seeing an opportunity, the wolf pulled back, hid his teeth and managed a forced smile…
