Optimism just died a death
It’s a drug. Those of us politically tuned in (as opposed to the majority who are tuned out), are perpetually ready for our next fix. Yet more outrage at an establishment that is determined to make the lives of the many miserable while lining the pockets of the few. And to those who scream ‘jealousy’ it really is a zero sum game. Poverty is not a side effect of capitalism, its a component.
I worked in a factory that produced grains that go into grinding wheels and on sandpaper. The beginning of the process involves putting bauxite (aluminium oxide) powder into a furnace and producing a solid ingot that is then crushed to create sharp grains. Before you begin the crushing, the red hot ingot needs to cool and the most efficient way to do that is to air cool it outside which means the heat is wasted.
It would seem logical to capture the heat and put it to use but that would slow the cooling considerably, costing the company time and money.
There is no doubt that sharing wealth across the community would make for a more peaceful and contented society without significantly impacting the wealthy. Giving the many a decent income would cost billions yet that would still leave the few with more than they need. Unfortunately capitalism demands that corporations maximise their profits which means maximising…
