The distinction should be made that it’s not the gun per se that’s fundamental to the problem. However getting assault rifles off the streets is. It’s like pulling at the loose thread. Once you ban them the whole thing becomes thread bare. You can then address the militarisation of the police, the fact that gun violence is an extension of the military industrial complex and the violence perpetrated throughout the world by the most violent country. The big problem is political corruption which can’t be fixed head on. It needs to be taken apart brick by brick.
