The Ongoing Genocide Comes Down to Equilibrium
And Israel’s insanity
There was another attack on a school in Gaza this morning and 100 were murdered. The normality of this situation is incredibly depressing and hope sapping. In science, the normal is perpendicular to the baseline. If a stick were in the normal position it would be perfectly upright, leaning neither to the left nor the right. The death toll today was probably above normal yet still in the range of what we’ve come to expect. That’s the problem: it’s not really a surprise. No matter what happens the pointer doesn’t appear to move.
In the early days (early being less than a year ago) a hospital being bombed hit national headlines. At that time a school would be a place where children were being educated so a bomb drop wouldn’t simply be about lives. Now, a school is most likely a shelter for families who’ve been disposessed and probably several times. It’s pretty shocking when you analyse these things and imagine the suffering and trauma. But there’s no shock factor. Everything that Israel does is so outrageous that outrage becomes meaningless. How do you rate something as beyond evil?
