There has never been a time when this was empirically true. There have always been famines, natural disasters that have devastated populations, and infant mortalities. Many civilisations have developed, thrived and then disappeared well before the modern age of colonialism.
The year 536 is often cited as the worst ever year to be alive, when a volcanic eruption caused the sun to be hidden for 18 months. The worst time for Britons was after 1066 with the Norman Conquest. It’s pretty hard to beat Genghis Khan for cruelty and depravity 800 years ago.
It’s important to note that the CEO, recently murdered, worked for the insurance industry & not pharmaceutical or private health. Hopefully the half millennium of European colonialism is coming to an end but what comes next is anyones guess.
