This is a pretty good assessment from an American perspective and more or less sums up Israel's problem of not being able to win the war even if it reduces the entire Gaza strip to rubble. However I have to take issue with your comparison when it comes to the pain inflicted on Gaza and Israel.

Its pointless totting up the tragedies on either side but so is finding any equivalence between a one off attack and an act of genocide.
