This is a strange notion. Just as all AI can be reduced to ones and zeros, all existence can be reduced to energy of which matter is merely a construct. The universe is therefore meaningless. It is only causal. Yet as observers we can't truly know the nature of the universe, only deduce from empirical information. Sub atomic particles cannot be observed, only inferred from their behaviour, just like planets were discovered by extrapolating from the erratic behaviour of bodies we could see.
The weakness of afreeism (as I take from this article) is that it doesn't follow the principle of the exception proving the rule. The objections are subsumed into the general theory rather than testing the hypothesis. I can't make sense of how punishment works as a deterrent like a gear within a gear. This also removes agency which is essential to our wellbeing. Morality and ethics are essential components of being human.
