This makes me think of the songs of the Eagles as they experienced the prostitution of the music industry in LA , the music execs being the pimps (Hollywood Waltz, a song I sing quite a bit). I've only seen videos but California is looking like a horror story, emblematic of the mythical American dream and the USA rotting from the inside.
