Driftwood

I feel diminished
Like driftwood

It feels like
I’m being blown sideways
But there’s no wind

I feel like
I’m hollow
Like a balloon
Just a skin

Life can be so busy
And directional
And empty
We all need a centre
Around which we travel

We could go round in circles
And arrive where we started
Our centre can travel
Around another centre
Around another centre
Around another centre

But where we are
Is less important
Than our connectedness
And where it is
Is less important than why

My learning does not diminish
Knowledge has no bounds
Yet it’s usefulness is moot
If it changes nothing

It’s purpose can be questioned
It’s usefulness measured
In actions

And change is pointless
If everything is new
