Wait till your father gets home
We live in an adversarial society where systems are set up with closed doors we have to open, sometimes with key codes we first have to obtain from an aggressive gateway. It is literally us against the system - which is odd when those systems are ostensibly in place for us. Is it any wonder that some have an aggressive attitude towards institutions that serve them, like the health service and local councils?
This has got much worse in England where benefits are withheld and where sanctions are applied because the applicant hasn’t met the strict rules perfectly. It illustrates the inherent cruelty in the Universal Credit system which, when you analyse it, deliberately makes recipients believe they are unworthy and should be grateful for the scraps they get. When you contrast this with the ease in which the rich and powerful get what they want, it becomes obvious that those who are most need in need are the adversaries of the system.
This should not be mistaken for the natural resistance that is essential in training and disciplining ourselves and the selection by which we choose suitable candidates for different roles. Our children have to be taught they can’t simply take what you want, and that aspiration demands sacrifice; that doors will be closed to them but others will be open.
